NC House now debating overrides of Gov. Josh Stein's vetoes. Republicans are short one vote of veto-proof majority, meaning one Democratic vote (or absence) is needed to override. Votes in this thread.

SB 254 overridden 74-46

-Flagrantly unconstitutional theft of authority from State Board of Education & Superintendent of Public Instruction to a partisan power grab
-Willfully violates federal funding requirements
-Every NC student deserves excellent public schools, whether traditional or charter

My initial response to the morning’s catastrophic veto overrides:
- Gerrymandering works. Most North Carolinians voted against all of this & it didn’t matter
- NCGOP malfeasance yes, but this is why the Dem base doesn’t trust Dems. We ran on breaking the supermajority and it wasn’t even a fight.
- 😭

Republicans in the North Carolina legislature overrode 8 of Governor Josh Stein's first 14 vetoes this morning. 3 Democrats, on different bills, crossed party lines to join all 71 Republican members to pass these bills into law.
