Tovey clearly takes his responsibility as a visible gay man seriously. A few days before we meet, he accepted the man of the year gong at the annual Attitude awards, and gave a rousing acceptance speech that touched on transphobia within the LGBTQ+ community and the rise of Reform. "As a community, we really attack our own," he says now, "and that's deeply upsetting because united we stand, divided we fall. We look outside ourselves to go, 'You need to be doing something, when actually within it we're fractured. And that's what they want." He offers an example. Earlier this year, in Los Angeles, Tovey was curating an exhibition by the German photographer Peter Berlin around the same time as Trump's administration scratched three characters from the Stonewall monument in New York. "So it wasn't celebrating LGBTQ+, it was just celebrating LGB," Tovey says. Some older gay men, while talking about the queer community at the LA exhibition, parroted the shortened acronym. "I said, 'Well, hang on a minute, you've missed a few letters off there," Tovey says. "I just thought how quickly people go: 'Oh great, so they've gone, now it's us?" He sighs. "As a community, we have to kick outwards instead of punching inwards." He says the general rise in transphobia, which he sees as the latest iteration of homophobia, is cyclical. "There's this scapegoating that needs to happen. It feels like it's the worst time in history for trans people right now." He's no politician, but you could imagine Tovey riling up a backbencher on Question Time. "I just care about people and my community," he says, eschewing the label of role model in favour of "possibility model", a term coined by Orange Is the New Black actor Laverne Cox. He likens people like Cox to lighthouses: "These beacons, that are shining a light going, 'This way!' Things are fucking rocky [so let's] build more lighthouses and be that fucking light that shines out, so people can find you through this dark, cold water that we're being plunged into."

Since I got my new phone (16e) in August, I've had an issue on and off that's really annoying. Every now and again, I'll wake up and battery is drained a lot more than expected - usually go to sleep with it in the 80% range, and when this happens I wake up with it in the 40% Checked the battery settings, and the culprits are always Siri and "Home Accessories" each using around 10% of the battery in each hour. I've never used Siri in my life, and I don't have the voice command thing on, so it's not sitting listening for me to say something. I've also never used or even downloaded the Home app to my phone! When this first started happening I did download it once and did the whole "delete home" thing I saw someone say either here or on the apple help forum in case that helped, but deleted the whole app immediately afterwards. For a while it seemed that turning my phone off more often would help, so I started setting a reminder to turn it off once a day. But I just woke up this morning with my phone at 42% and Siri and Home Accessories had been doing their thing overnight again 🙄 Any ideas on how to fix it? It's usually not too big of an issue as I'm usually up in enough time to get it fully charged again before I have to go anywhere but I have a busy week with hospital appointments and need to be able to rely on my phone more

buying a stick blender was one of the best things i did cheap food wise, i’m living on soup rn

current fave: butternut squash

<50p per serving if you just need to buy those 3 things, still <£1 to also buy a kilo of onions, dried thyme, and stock cubes and you can use those for other recipes
butternut squash soup peel squash and put in the microwave for 5 mins if you need it easier to chop chop onion (doesn't matter how, it will be blended) and put in big pot with oil, garlic if you have it (i like frozen cubes) chop squash and add, put in some thyme make stock from cube, add cook until veg is soft, add tins of beans and coconut milk, blend add more water if it's too thick or simmer a bit if it's too thin! you can also add smash/dried potato flakes to thicken soup and it works rly well
