How’s this place doing? When I want to talk code I usually go to LinkedIn lately, and when I want to talk personal I use Instagram.

Missing those pre-Elon Twitter days a lot sometimes. I think we had something better than we understood or appreciated at the time.

It’s a rough week this week 😞

Increasingly feeling like all the time poured into personal coding projects and watching videos, reading blogs is having a payoff that will keep me gainfully employed as AI consumes jobs from the bottom up of the software engineer heirarchy.

“Senior” coders and lower are in trouble

Facing some challenges at work with team members who are not really advancing their knowledge or thinking deeply enough before proposing changes.

I don’t know if coding is a skill you can develop sufficiently by just doing the job, never watching videos, reading blogs or having hobby projects.

I am highly impressed by Codex AI Agents. Now I’m starting to believe junior-senior programmer roles could become increasingly obsolete. When I say senior though, I mean that in a world where there are still architects, leads, principle engineers etc… The labour will go higher order.

Something about LinkedIn makes me feel like I need to be more formal, while here I can be off the cuff about things and post the little thoughts too. It feels natural

But I get more engagement on LinkedIn by far. I even have had a few posts get engaged with more than anything I ever said on Twitter

Lately I’m between posting here and LinkedIn to talk about code and I’m feeling increasingly like talking about code on LinkedIn just makes more sense given audience.

I hope bsky grows more and X/Twitter fades away, though it seems increasingly unlikely people will stop.

I want this to succeed.

Unless you absolutely have to for work or family, I don’t see why anyone would visit the USA right now. Conferences are not a good enough reason IMO.

Say what you want about the LAMP stack, but I have it to thank for my career as a programmer. Its flexibility really let things I didn’t understand yet get out of the way, so I could just code and learn. I still lean on skills I honed in those earlier years, like handwriting all my SQL queries.

It can be really hard to set time for E2E testing our mobile apps and QA barely has the bandwidth either.

So we decided at work to have a 1hr working session every week as a mobile team with the E2E lead on the web platform ans slowly take bites out of the problem.

AI tools are getting damn close at generating code, as long as you remain the architect.

If you are good at architecting concerns into discrete components that is going to work to your benefit for codegen, because these tools can really only solve one problem at a time.

28 days into recovery from surgery now. Still a bit swollen and discolored, but reemerging from my shell

So many peacocks in the courtyard of our hotel!

This hotel in Lisbon I’m staying at loves Swift programming, clearly

I’ve been thinking recently about collegial relationships with other developers in the workplace.
When you really vibe with the devs on your own team it can be so magical and uplifting that you miss those people for years after parting ways. I’m lucky to have had a few over the years.

I look forward to getting back to more emphasis on my passion for software development

I was burying myself in passion projects and tech community for years, but it wasn’t fixing the problems I faced with gender identity.

Surgery went well and I’m recovering. No pain just discomfort. Day 2 of recovery and I’ll be discharged today. Back to work in a couple weeks.

Well White Lotus has been ruined for me by learning Mike White is an AGP promulgating POS. No trans allyship there, just another cis dude ready to throw us under the bus.

Argh, why are we asking AI to do creativity for us? Isn’t the point of automation to give us back leisure time for creativity?

19 rides since I got my exercise bike just over a month ago. 15 exercises in March. That’s after several years of minimal physical activity so I’m proud of the progress.

Don’t Repeat Yourself might be one of the most misleading things we learn early on in software development. Not that it is principally wrong, but it is overemphasized and often overshadows separation of concerns when it comes to practice.
