There is no one more motivated to understand autism than Dr. Hotez, as a doctor, scientist and autism dad. Unfortunately, being an autism parent means having to understand the grifters that live to profit from our situation. Dr. Hotez absolutely nails it here

I am currently reading through my late parents correspondence while my dad was on a ship off of Vietnam in 1972. I am working my way through my mom’s letters to my dad first. What an insight it has given me into her and the daily life for her and the 3 crazy kids she was wrangling at the time.

The missing piece of this viral post is that the Texas officials are lying and deflecting blame. The NWS, hobbled as it is, issued an accurate flood watch for Kerr County the evening before and accurate escalating warnings overnight as the flood was developing.
After media reports & experts warned for months that drastic & sudden cuts at the Nat Weather Service by Trump could impair their forecasting ability & endanger lives during the storm season, TX officials blame an inaccurate forecast by NWS for the deadly results of the flood.

My students are always amazed at how much time we talk about phytoplankton in my oceanography course. But they play a vital roll in the ocean-atmosphere connection and ecosystems of course. #oceanchat

Reading about the hydrothermal vents in the ocean in National Geographic Magazine as a child was my first exposure to marine geology. I was always interested in how the ocean worked as a whole, not just the amazing creatures that live there. #OceanChat

Hey fellow ocean science folks maybe we should help out the CPSC @cpsc.gov on the amazing discoveries that US funded science has made in the oceans and encourage them and their 100,000+ new followers to speak up for ocean science. 🌊 🧪

A Florida weatherman telling his viewers he can no longer be confident in his forecasts due to cuts to atmospheric science is the kind of resistance content I’m here for.

Another great piece on the dangers of sticking your head in the sand hoping the problem will go away.
My new essay: "Running Blind."

Trump administration efforts to purge, censor, and silence assessments of environmental threats to the US will blind the country to instability and real-world conflict risks, jeopardizing our military and national security.

A great example of what those working on climate resiliency see vs. the general public.
This is Honeymoon Lagoon.

It is lovely.

One of the great communications challenges of the next decade is that, most of the time, this is what the Climate Crisis looks like.

If you want a reliable source on deep sea mining, here you go.
I've got a lot to say about the deep-sea mining executive order.

I'll be rolling it out in digestible chunks throughout the day, starting with this quick primer:

Federal research cuts impact local economies, and stall progress.

Publish an opinion piece in your hometown paper on June 16th to SPREAD THE WORD about how scientific research contributes to the everyday health and wealth of the general public.

Lump in my throat watching this. I have taken this oath three times.

The USAID team - having been brutalized by their own government - still go out by renewing their allegiance to country and Constitution.

Has Elon taken this oath? I highly doubt it.

Before trying to get a bunch of scientists to leave their jobs voluntarily, one should consider that many of us completed our advanced degrees PURELY OUT OF SPITE.

by describing holiday parties

that for the sake of safety
she skipped

that her classrooms will be

she spent her break avoiding.
