So... I'm going to give Bluesky a chance. However, I'm going to use it differently than I've used other "social media" platforms. Pretty much, it'll be where I post personal... read the rest here: https://listed.to/@Scmasm/58912/bluesky-onboarding-post

Not likin' what I'm hearin', here abouts. When the CEO is welcoming authoritarians and taunting LGBTQ folks, it's probably time for me to move on.

Requested a replacement Social Security card less than 4 hours before Trump's Gubmint Shutdown. What are the odds I'll get it in 10 to 14 days? Somewhere between slim and none, I'd guess.

Cory Doctorow (@pluralistic.net.web.brid.gy) has some... *concerning* news about the "AI" industry. (Okay, it's bad news. Like, really bad news.)

The problem is that it won't just affect the siloed techbros and their megacorps.

Solar electrification is going well (and *accelerating*) but the rent-seeking oil-igarchs are gonna try to gate-keep the hell out of it. Cory Doctorow's warns of how solar enshitification might proceed:

I wonder if someone could hack a roomba (or another similar device) to play a low-fidelity, 10 bar clip of *Turkey in Straw* for that ice cream truck vibe that would help summer seem to last just a little longer. 😄

Finished Hank Green's A Beautifully Foolish Endeavor. I liked this better than the first book. (I still liked the first book and you can't really skip it to read this one so don't try.) ... (cont.)

Weird thing happened this evening: I heard what I thought was an ice cream truck - you know, playing Turkey in the Straw? But the sound was higher quality than any I'd ever heard before. It actually had audible bass. ... (cont.)

Today is my 30th anniversary of starting to work at [current place of employment]. Is that a humble-brag?
Or a brag-whine?
Maybe some of each.

I'm most of the way through John @scalzi.com's *When the Moon Hits Your Eye*. Getting darker but still funny. There's some real heart there.

This is one of the reasons I like Bruce Fummey's videos. He often applies the lessons of Scottish history and makes it relevant to today's (and tomorrow's) struggles. Let him "tell you a story."

I finished Upgrade by Blake Crouch. I liked it. It didn't wimp out with some harder things which I really appreciate but there were a few anachronisms (for example, getting news from TV and newspapers a couple decades from now in a society steeped in futuristic tech).

Ever wonder what those chatbots do in the support call center breakroom when they're off duty?

I added a few "conversations" to my collection.

We had sqausage soup tonight: pureed butternut squash soup with sliced pineapple/ginger chicken sausage. Very tasty! Could use a tad more ginger.

Finished Persepolis Rising (The Expanse, book 7, by James S. A. Corey) last night. Right in line with the first 6. Very tense. I had to not read it too late in the evening so the tension wouldn't affect my sleep. Part of that was I had no idea where things would lead. Good stuff.

@ewhowe.com Good sermon! Give those TESCREAL bros heck! That whole cumulative "happiness" thing always sounded like more traditional Christian arguments for suffering now and getting my reward in heaven except that, unless I am "uploaded" (or otherwise immortalized), I don't actually get the reward!

I'm a third of the way through Persepolis Rising, book 7 of The Expanse by James S. A. Corey. It starts several decades after the end of book 6 and season 6 of the video series. Gripping!

Finished Annalee Newitz' Autonomous. Did not meet expectations... in a good way. Twists and turns - some unpleasantly violent - kept surprising me and did not disappoint. I find the world building compelling and I hope Automatic Noodle - due out next month - is in the same world. (I suspect it is.)
