We just lost an icon in the world of music videos. Diane Martel was a trailblazer, her eye defined an era. Her credits include Dance With My Father (Luther), Dreamlover (Mariah), Throw Ya Gunz (Onyx) and more. She created space for the dancers and opened doors for women directors. Rest in power sis.

In response to the NYT lists, I called for contributors to submit 15 titles for Best Experimental Cinema of the 21st Century.

109 ballots, 940 films, and 550 artists later, these are the results.

Huge thanks to @filmmakermagazine.com.web.brid.gy for stepping up to publish.

Bluesky needs some beauty today. Victor LaValle's incredible novels with stunning new covers designed by Yuko Shimizu. If I had to pick a favorite, I would say that I haven't stopped thinking about Lone Women since I read it months ago.

My publisher released four of my novels with new gorgeous covers by the great Yuko Shimizu.

They’re calling it the LaValle Quartet though each book stands alone.

Just look at these things!

They’re in bookstores now.

A sad one! R.I.P. Robert Wilson. "Einstein on the Beach" was a canonical work for me as a teenager, long before I saw the piece at its first BAM revival. www.nytimes.com/2025/07/31/t...

A smart and nuanced piece.
“One of the real challenges here is the way that A.I. undermines the human value of attention, and the individuality that flows from that. What we stand to lose is not just a skill but a mode of being: the pleasure of invention, the felt life of the mind at work.“

Interesting article. At Filmmaker Magazine, this is something we are debating, whether to destructively scan our issues in order to get them fully digitized going back to the beginning. Some of the early issues there are not many — if any — copies left.
While destructive scanning is a common practice among some book digitizing operations, Anthropic's approach is somewhat unusual due to its massive scale.

The entire establishment went full racist and Islamophobic in the end.

Still Mamdani won.

Major decision out of the Northern District of California. AI training on copyrighted material is fair use under the copyright act. This will have major implications for the AI industry and artists having their work stolen by AI companies.
