IMO, Chuck Schumer had two choices - a bad one and a bad one.
I understand why folks wanted them to fight it out and even more so, the frustration of NEEDING to fight back.
I have devoted 5 years of my life to trying to get Ds to fight back and have little to show for it!!!
But I also know we would have come to regret that shutdown.

The real problem with our side is our base. We think it’s our leaders’ job to coddle us into wanting to fight. Short of that we just sit back and complain about our leaders, while doing nothing ourselves. We think the goal is to make ourselves feel superior to our leaders – not to fight and win.
