That opening was kickass, Philip, I can't wait to see it all!

I've just remembered the one character from the books I'd like to see added to the movies: Bond's housekeeper May, his "Scottish treasure". Played by Annette Crosbie, of course.

He'd be great. Ray Wise was spot-on too.

Agreed. I thought it was going to be a herd of Little Englanders but they're a very cool bunch.

It's been a really nice surprise to find out how many funny and creative James Bond fans operate on social media.

Oh god, we're one step away from starting a podcast, aren't we?

I don't think it's terrible to try to make the story a personal thing for the hero in some way, but delving into their past is old-hat. I liked how Bond is betrayed at the start of Die Another Day and is tortured for 2 years in North Korea. Now *that's* some motivation for him when he gets out.

Oh sweet Jesus! 😮

I suspect that "Blofeld" is just the codename for whoever's running SPECTRE at the time.

Also, I'm pretty sure they revealed that Austin Powers and Dr Evil were brothers in the third movie, didn't they? I mean, I'd be *very* embarrassed if I suggested doing that in an actual James Bond movie.

Yes, a big missile blew him all up. But it's okay, it wasn't really James Bond.

Bond is far too intelligent and worldly to ever be a Little Englander, of course. His patriotism isn't a right-wing thing. He'd be proud to be part of a country that has a BBC and a NHS.

I actually like that aspect of the character; Fleming invented Bond in 1953, when British influence on the world was fast draining away, and this was addressed in the books. Bond has always had this British "We're still important!" theme that the rest of the world finds quite sweet.

The Craig Bond quits MI6 in Casino Royale. He abandons his mission and fellow agents in Skyfall and then he quits once more for fun at the end of Spectre. Patriot? HAH!

Oh mate, if you think the Cold War is over, I have a bridge in Siberia you might be interested in buying.
November 11, 2025 at 2:52 PM
It *has* to be him, right? I can't imagine anyone better!

Canon is something that the Cubby Broccoli era only ever used for funny bits. It doesn't have to be any more than that!
November 11, 2025 at 2:29 PM
Noooo. Bond is a *veteran*. He was an experienced agent in Dr No, not a newbie. Start it with Don Warrington as M walking into his office and saying, "Any news from 007?" Cut to a shadowy figure kicking ass on a rooftop in Cairo...
November 11, 2025 at 2:17 PM
...And most of all, he loves to outwit and kill absolute bastards who want to ruin the world. He's a patriot, proud to serve his country. Doing his job well is the thing that brings him the most satisfaction.

How much of that was in the Daniel Craig version? Bugger all. 3/3
