Tonkotsu from Haruya Izakaya again last night. Noodles are fine, nothing to write home about, but the soup was better than I remember. Quite delicious. The real star of the dish is the pork belly, nice thick slices with some charring, which really develops the flavour.

I read Chapters 39-44 today, and as usual, really enjoyed it. I like the addition of this new character Ikumi, my heart goes out to her. I’m glad she was able to join the shop.

I was down the coast for a movie, and was walking around when I spotted this Japanese restaurant, and I saw they had a Tonkotsu, so decided to give it a go. Unfortunately it wasn’t the secret gem I keep hoping to discover, but it was decent enough.

I wanted to go back and try one of the lunch specials, so grabbed this beef noodle soup. Again, it was delicious, and great for a chilly winter day. Decent chunks of meat. Would order again.

I was lying here thinking that I’m probably done with weddings, until my nephew or niece get married in 10-15 years time. I have a couple of single friends, but the chances of them getting married, or me getting invited are slim.

Last night I was so cold. Tonight I’ve stripped off my clothes because I was too warm. And I still can’t get to sleep. So annoying.

Went to a Wedding reception today. They always make me feel so lonely. I try to be accepting of the fact that I’m single, and always will be, but it’s hard. I always end crying at night alone in bed. At least this time it’s as bad as last time.

Cooking diary 12 July. A recipe I invented, as far as I know. Dice up some apple and oranges, mix with some chopped cashews and sultanas (missing from this morning’s effort), then cook up some bacon and haloumi and chop them, and mix all together. A nice combining of sweet and salty, hot and cold 😋

Screening Diary 11July: Ong Bak. The power of this is slightly diminished due to familiarity and the passage of time, but still, the sheer power of it cannot be denied. I’m equally giggling with glee or moaning and wincing at the violence and athleticism on display. So many elbows to the head.

I often have a problem that when I fill up petrol it’s often late at night so I use a 7-11, and always end up buying donuts as well. I was only going to buy one, but he said I could have 4 for $10. You’ll never guess what I did!
P.S. Pineapple isn’t as good as you’d hope it would be.

Unfortunately not a hidden gem when it came to the Tonkotsu, but the sushi was delicious.😋

Screening Diary 10 July, Turning Red. Rewatch on Disney+. I think Mei Lin is a great character, and I enjoy spending time with her. My heart goes out to the Mum, who’s just trying to do the best she can for her daughter. I enjoyed this movie, but I don’t love it, more I love parts of it.
