They get so mad when it’s pointed out to them that the left must be a lot tougher than they are to willingly live in such “dangerous” places, and also when I point out that I can just look out the window and see my city isn’t “destroyed” or whatever.

Not deflecting at all, don’t use words just because you heard them elsewhere. Just more examples of the right believing in things that are wrong, often outright crazy things, that should help demonstrate to you why reality naturally aligns more with the left.
