We had a remarkably clear sky all day, not a cloud in sight, I think. The sky was blue after sunset, apart from a strong orange glow along the south-western horizon.

Wow! One of the most intense rainbows I've ever seen has just appeared! Really awesome. Gone now but brilliant for a couple of minutes.

These autumn leaves are from a Ginkgo biloba 'living fossil' tree in West Way, Cirencester, just where it joins Cricklade Street.

Looking through some old #photos to use on 'Journeys of heart and mind', I spotted these glorious, #autumn, #beech leaves, taken in #November 2010 in #StNeots.

Today was a special day. The minor symptoms of my microstroke have improved, my daughter Beth and her family are here, and a train has appeared in Cirencester Town Station, closed in 1964. I remember travelling in a diesel railcar like this one, it ran several times a day to the main line at Kemble.

Old town houses in Gloucester Street, #Cirencester. Wisteria on the front wall, and it's easy to imagine a horse and carriage coming out from the passageway behind the large door. Times past, how the reasonably well-off lived in early Victorian times.

Mop came to town, reminding me of Mop fairs from childhood, rolling big, old pennies down the slot to try for a prize and winning a budgie in a cage one year! I remember the motorcycle 'Wall of Death', dodgems, and the smell of diesel, fried onion and candy floss.

Here's our Hesperantha schizostylus again on 11th October with 1½ new flowers now open. The cultivar is 'Mollie Gould'. You'll find this plant on sale as Schizostylis (the botanical genus) as well as Hesperantha (the correct name). Other cultivars include red and white forms.

#Hesperantha coccinea flowing outside our greenhouse a couple of days ago. It's a beautiful plant flowering very late in the season and tolerating semi-shade very well indeed. Graces any garden in the autumn months. You can see there are a lot more flower buds to open yet. #Autumn

Walking home from town yesterday, I spotted the Moon dropping towards the western horizon. These photos are from the Gloucester road looking west.

Clouds in the night sky on my way home from Small Group in Stratton. And the Moon illuminates the clouds most beautifully. Click the first image to see the stars.

Before dinner I walked out along permissive paths over farmland west of the Gloucester Road near Cirencester, arriving home as it was getting dark.

Michaelmas daisy and Sedum spectabile looking good in our front garden. These plants flower late in the year, always a seasonal treat.

One more photo from this evening's walk in the park. An ancient cedar tree, with its spreading branches hanging low over the ground.

Today I continued to play catch-up, filing and indexing photos, filing emails, editing articles for my website, JHM, and updating Journal entries. Once everything is up-to-date I'll make a start on my tax return. There was time for a walk as well, here are some photos.

We're having our kerb lowered today, and we'll need to get the paved area extended as well and put in a charge point for our EV. It's all useful progress towards a greener future.

Rain this evening but a lovely sunset around the same time yesterday. The weather is always full of surprises, so glorious!

Rain, rain, rain this afternoon. But that's good it'll fill the rivers, make the garden grow, and hopefully start to fill the empty reservoirs soon as well.

We spent part of morning at Westonbirt Arboretum, where Donna wanted to try an orienteering course themed on plant hunters.

After a week in the Lake District, we came home for a week, then drove down to Tiverton in Devon for a week taking Donna's Mum with us so she, too, could have a change of scene. Here are some shots from Ilfracombe, including Damian Hirst's statue 'Verity'.
