We had a beautiful sunrise on Friday in San Diego, and it made way for a great morning of conversation. Thanks to all the professors and trainees who joined us for Meet the Professors at @isdp.org! Please look out for a feedback survey in your email over the coming weeks so we can improve!

Thirteenth book of 2025 made me feel like I was drowning because it was so heavily profound, in a good way. This one will stay with me for a long time. And, read it next to the ocean while at ISDP—yes I swam!

Book 13 of ? in 2025: The Swimmers by Julie Otsuka

Also featuring my lab @isdp.org!

I like running the least of everyone in this group and yet somehow I’m the one organizing our runs and an upcoming relay race 🤦🏽‍♀️🤷🏽‍♀️

Happy Sunday!

Twelfth book of 2025 was another emotional one, this beautiful poetry collection about loving dogs and the life of dogs 🥹 As such, I accompany this post with photos of our Bear 🫶

Book 12 of ? in 2025: Dog Songs by Mary Oliver (and I hit my goal of reading at least 12 books this year!)

Eleventh book of 2025 had me sobbing on the plane. One of the most heartbreaking and definitely the most beautifully written book I’ve ever read. Medicine, neuroscience, history, and art all wrapped into one extremely moving intergenerational story.

Bonus points for me for passing Temple Bar on my walk home, where a bunch of scenes from Detroiters was filmed!

#Michiganders! Do you have a #PrimaryElection in your district today?! #Detroit does! Get out and #VOTE!

If you’re voting today share a fun fact about your polling location or district. Mine? I vote where Meg and Jack White from the White Stripes went to high school!

Thank you to Senator Slotkin & Reps. Thanedar, McDonald , Stevens, & Dingell for mtg w/ #SciPol from #WayneState. We asked for opposition to the 40% proposed cuts to #NIH & asked for $51.303 billion in appropriations to the agency for FY26. We shared our stories & appreciate the lawmakers’ time.

Reading David Sedaris in the Smithsonian Castle gardens after two long days of advocacy is such a restorative and joyful feeling. I missed it here in DC and feel so privileged to get to use my voice with support from @waynestateclas.bsky.social to advocate for scientific research funding!

Tenth book of 2025 finished in the most beautiful setting of Mo’orea on my honeymoon! I have to say, I like the musical and movie better. The boon was just too dark and long winded for me, albeit profound.

Book 10 of ? in 2025: Wicked by Gregory Maguire

Probably the best talk I’ve ever had the honor of listening to. And what a privilege to see Dr. Rabinak’s body of work recognized through the naming of the Christine Rabinak Graduate Poster Awards at Michigan Society for Neuroscience! So well deserved. @brainsbeesbikes.bsky.social

Ninth book of 2025 down—we continue with audiobooks. This was so devastating and heart wrenching. But definitely worth the read.

Book 9 of ? in 2025: Into Thin Air by Jon Krakauer

(If you like this book, I HIGHLY recommend reading Shadow Divers, which is also an even BETTER read)

Eighth book of 2025 down—another audiobook. Loved the first half, hated the second half. Wasn’t at all what I expected which was a pleasant surprise for the first part. Then it got lazy and cliche 🤷🏽‍♀️

Book 8 of ? in 2025: Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin

Seventh book of 2025 completed—listened to Al Pacino read his memoir, which definitely made it worth listening to. He performs his story, and while it’s chaotically written and sometimes hard to follow, I loved the stories and his passion.

Sixth book of 2025 completed—I listened to Meryl Streep’s reading on Spotify and was enamored. This book feels comfy and cozy, lime Gilmore Girls but a very different story. Having finished it I feel the tinge of heartbreak. Five stars!

Fifth book of 2025 completed—part as an audiobook and part the hard copy because I couldn’t wait long enough for my monthly Spotify listening allotment to turnover! It brought me to tears reading about Gilmore Girls, and I loved the wise words Kelly Bishop shares at the end of her whirlwind memoir
