Science communication tramp.

I’ve been an informal science educator and vaccine advocate long enough to know that anti-science is not partisan.

People show us who they are by who they choose to represent them.

(Actually, The Man Who Laughs is one of our favorite silent films, but this just fit too well to pass up)

Doing public engagement of #science in nonprofit venues, I tend to be a little more subtle.

The time for being subtle has long since passed.

I’ll be keeping the decal I just affixed to my water bottle conspicuously placed while at the aquarium today, as well as its original message for #vaccines.

-Secret identity.
-Mad skills
-Had to act like a foppish dandy.
-Had to hide his hero activities from his significant other.

Before Zorro, Batman or Superman, that all started with:

“Wings”, “Man Who Laughs” and a few other dramas are the only silent films that have held our interest as much as the comedies by Chaplin, Keaton and Lloyd.

Maybe if I understood the efforts to achieve the technical aspects, I might appreciate them more; but once the story starts to drag on…

The 1st version of Metropolis I ever saw, was this one: restored by Georgio Moroder, with a soundtrack he composed that was performed by contemporary rock artists. It was shown on Cinemax in the 80’s.

I probably wouldn’t have gotten into it as much without that music.

Lies of omission are a favorite tactic of #vaccine refusers.
Which is why I reveled in being a living example of what #measles can do to a child.

Almost like Holocaust deniers, they don’t want to acknowledge that those of us who lost some degree of vision or hearing even exist.

Millie is hoping we can make the most of these coming weeks, as daylight hours decrease while muddy trails with slick rocks become more frequent.

“I've got scruples too, ya know. You know what that is... scruples?”

“No, I don't know what it is but if you've got 'em, it's a sure bet they belong to somebody else!”

Best line of the entire film

Last summer, a family came into the little aquarium where I volunteer.

I was inviting them to touch the anemones, when the grandfather quipped, “dooz your anemone baht?”

We recreated that scene with marine invertebrates, to the utter bewilderment of everyone else.

Moon snails create their egg casings by swallowing sand, then extruding the eggs in a mixture bound by mucus.

So, I’d wait until the kids at our faux tide pool had handled them for a few minutes before informing them that they were holding a lump of sand, eggs and butt snot.
