That’s super interesting! I’d like to read more about this. Last I heard was OpenAI loses money on every subscriber, paid or free. Did they turn it around?

(For-profit) firms run on profit, not revenue. OpenAI is a company that sells $2 bills for $1. Without constant cash infusions they’d be toast by now. If running LLMs is a sustainable business then when will it become so?

OpenAI made about 4 billion dollars in revenue in 2024 for a net loss of 5 billion. All their press releases for 2025 have funny annualization tricks so we’ll see what the total is after the end of the year I guess.

There are no companies turning a profit running LLMs, only companies turning a profit selling LLMs to companies that think they might one day turn a profit.
