P.s. we should all be talking about the dropping crime numbers in amazement given the conditions of increasing wealth inequality, a broken healthcare system, and an economic and environmental path we are on that leaves many younger Americans seeing no positive future for themselves.

Not letting them off the hook but social has added so much fuel to that fire. Local news Facebook posts and comments are also such a cesspool of hate and disinformation.

Haven’t used Citizen before but It’s awful that the fear/rage bait crime and suspicion posts get in the way of info that is actually important for the community.

Yep, and now your fearful neighbors are now piling on top of that with their social posts. Local news Facebook post comment sections are horrendous if you look through them knowing that the worst comments have already been hidden.

Exactly, I moved to a very nice neighborhood in Kansas City last summer and got Ring Alerts for the first time and you’d think there were constant gun battles and thieves lurking in the quietest neighborhood I’ve ever lived in.

There may be less crime, but the fear and rage based social media landscape has made everyone way more aware any crimes and tons of suspicions. And geolocation gives proximity to how far it is away from your home. (3/3)

…but also the imagined crimes from the neighborhood Karens that constantly ping your phone (if you have these apps) warning you that fireworks might have been gunshots and that a man walking was suspicious because he wasn’t white... (2/3)

The last year of Katy Perry’s life seems like a sequel reboot of Spinal Tap but with a real 2010’s pop star instead of a fake metal band.
