I will add, that I have yet to finish a thorough read through or play it, but this is just from my understanding so far.

It's something I'd recommend checking out if you want to mix and match genres honestly but I don't know what I'd say feels new or exciting other than player character interactions, which is important for sure but still.

I think if you're only 5e familiar, it's a good place to start dipping your toes into it because the book layout is actually pretty solid but if you've played a number indie games it feels like you'll say "Huh, that's neat" more than being impressed by any one thing.

It's got the typical playbook stuff, but combat is a little bit more centralized than most PbtA, though not by much. It's very much designed to be setting agnostic and the book itself includes a lot of examples of different ways to flavor your game.

So, I haven't gone through much of it yet, but from what I can tell so far, it's somewhere between modern D&D and something more akin to Powered by the Apocalypse with a bit of Forged in the Dark thrown in for good measure. It's very improv focused and, mechanically, streamlined for play.

Honestly, as long as you're trying to make something you're happy with I think it will be great!

I miss Harmony of Despair. I remember having to barter with my mom to let me use her card to get it, only to learn that my bank card would now in fact work. Precious memories...
