Yes, I think the contours of her framework (as well as those of many other cognitive scientists) are not intrinsically antagonistic to realist perspectives. That she or others would be hesitant to adopt them is a purely philosophical choice, not a necessary implication of the work itself.

He’s difficult to refute, given the extensive citations he provides from within the field. There’s not so much disagreement on the facts, as an unwillingness to follow him into the more speculative conclusions he draws, concerning topics like cultural change and metaphysics. Which is understandable

It’s primarily those aspects that correspond to a superficial (idealistic) sort of postmodern outlook that he seems most critical of. Much could be said (and indeed has been said) on that point. The more balanced aspects he certainly does support.

Re: emotional universalism, Vivek Chibber also describes people's universal aspirations & interests in his 2013 book on Postcolonial Theory.
