I'm so glad I'm not the only one -- bc I have my own special fascination with certain AmRev battles (Yorktown especially) but... this is a lot. And not in a good way #HATM

The pacing in this ep is definitely different. We're getting random stuck in the weeds moments, then hardcore fast forwarding through others. I think thus far episode 3 has been my favorite #HATM

FYI, subscribe to the League at Mount Vernon (League of descendants of the enslaved persons) YouTube account! New podcast episode just dropped that will be especially interesting to fellow history peeps who study enslaved persons history: #HATM

Gotta throw out my shoutout to Laura Auricchio for her work on Lafayette -- one of my favorite historical figures of all time #HATM

thank you! African American history in this time period emerged as my special interest after befriending historians and historical interpreters at Mount Vernon. Really excited to put together all the research and tell some amazing stories that definitely need to be more mainstream!

Every single time I hear the word "honor" in this doc my brain immediately screams @craigbrucesmith.bsky.social.

"American Honor" is a great book discussing this concept, it's definition, application, etc during this time period. So good. #HATM

Learned about that in this book -- one of the many things we never learned in school but I learned afterward through self-study. Bless historians. Y'all doin' the Lord's work! #HATM

Hemings mention gives me the excuse to post about Annette Gordon-Reed's book. This one combined with Mary Thompson's "The Only Unavoidable Subject of Regret" -- perfection. #HATM

British government mobilizing foreign fighters to fight against their own people as an argument for the civil war aspect of the AmRev is interesting. Not sure I've ever contemplated that particular aspect #HATM

I do adore Annette Gordon-Reed's commentary here. Literally cannot fathom a discussion about enslaved persons history without her present in the conversation #HATM

Valid!!! Also probably why I think a lot of us without PhD's get very very very nervous using the "historian" word bc, like you said, for so long that was reserved for a very specific group of people.... that and some of us have severe imposter syndrome 😆 #HATM
