That he does! Lol #HATM

Since we're coming up on the Redoubt 10 mention -- one of my favorite moments in the Battle of Yorktown!

Took these photos last November. Looking forward to a return trip next week! #HATM

Simcoe was definitely a favorite. They did a phenomenal job casting in that show!! #HATM

I am in my happy place. For reasons that should be very obvious at this point. Although, "poor" Tarleton is about to have a really, really bad time here #HATM
November 22, 2025 at 1:43 AM
Well, I don't think I'll get my Banastre Tarleton content until episode 6, but since I won't be able to tune in tomorrow night with the #HATM crew... here it is now. From the American Revolution Museum in Philly in 2021

Agreed. The artist of all my historical fiction novels is a lovely woman from Budapest named Zsofia (got to spend a couple weeks with her in Budapest last year). She's taught me so much about the Hungarian efforts in the AmRev... and showed me their George Washington statue! #HATM

Love me a good Don Troiani painting. Battle of Kingsbridge is a favorite #HATM

Baron von Steuben cracks me up. His temper, cursing in multiple languages, impatient... but determined and ultimately effective. I really enjoyed this book about him #HATM

Every time they mention Yorktown I immediately start geeking out-- y'all are so lucky I will not be able to join tomorrow night for the final episode. I am afraid I would be insufferably annoying about it #HATM

JOHN LAURENS MENTION!!! Okay I'm loving this episode a lot more already. Granted, they are talking about all of my favorite historical figures so...def biased.

Photo I took of the wax figure of Laurens located in the Museum of the U.S. Army at Fort Belvoir, VA #HATM

Gotta throw out my shoutout to Laura Auricchio for her work on Lafayette -- one of my favorite historical figures of all time #HATM

Join us (virtually) for our next Friends of Mount Vernon Book Club event on December 10th!! We'll be reading about myths and legends during the founding era, separating fact from fiction. Message me for how to join our group!

#OTD 5 years ago, I began working on a historical novella about James Armistead Lafayette. It's remained my best seller.

My next project is an essay collection of African American stories during the AmRev period (concept art below).

(All published works are available at the link in my bio!) #HATM

Hey #HATM friends! I won't be able to join for the livestream tonight, but I'll try and tune in tomorrow night after I host the Mount Vernon Book Club 😀 For those interested, this is the book we'll be chatting about! 10/10.

Learned about that in this book -- one of the many things we never learned in school but I learned afterward through self-study. Bless historians. Y'all doin' the Lord's work! #HATM

Hemings mention gives me the excuse to post about Annette Gordon-Reed's book. This one combined with Mary Thompson's "The Only Unavoidable Subject of Regret" -- perfection. #HATM
November 18, 2025 at 2:50 AM
AH Erica Dunbar!! I was honored to meet her on Juneteenth 2021 for the dedication of the Ona Judge historical marker outside Mount Vernon. Her book is also fabulous #HATM

For those interested in learning more about the enslaved persons of Mount Vernon, cannot recommend this book enough. Mary Thompson dedicated her entire career to this subject. This book is incredible #HATM
