Hating David Brooks is a passion project, but every so often his wet-toilet-paper brain leaks something so noxious it makes me gasp. Few better manifestations of the utter moral vacancy of the liberal mind than this, which could have been written about Hitler himself www.nytimes.com/2025/06/26/o...

A peculiar knot of pathos for any psychoanalysis head these days: its wisdom is more validated than even in its golden age, but that wisdom now takes the most dumbass forms imaginable

There is no "Tidewater Dreams" by Isabel Allende, no "Last Algorithm" by Andy Weir, no "Rainmaker" by Percival Everett. Completely fabricated by AI, and put in print by the Chicago Sun-Times.

In the end, it’s just painful & rude to be surrounded by such astonishing thinkers & writers so courageous & admirable & morally clear & the people charged with governing our fate can’t think or write clearly or courageously or admirably or in the end morally. Like, ask us to help.

One absolute fogey stance I will insist on, earhorn in hand, is that ostensibly liberal popular culture does lots of work rn dressing up voyeuristic sadism as daring depth insight & authenticity & it’s is bad. The whole ep is literal torture & people are celebrating how difficult it was to watch jfc

I loved Peter Ablinger and could not feel any greater gratitude for what he did, his doubting of music from every possible angle and his making every possible music out of that doubt, no other like him, his genius so humane, so funny, so resonant, like a cistern, I already miss him terribly
