Something I try to impress upon my students is that social media sites can be your jumping off point, but should never be your sole news source. Unfortunately, many adults need this lesson as well.
A while back I asked folks why they’re joining Bluesky and the most common response I saw was, “I just want a good place to get my news” and, yall, no. Bad.

Today I reflect back on Inauguration Day in 2009. I was 16, bundled up in borrowed snow gear, trekking the crowded streets of DC in 28 degree weather, full of hope, to watch Obama get sworn into his first term as the 44th president of the United States. Do with that information as you will.
