You need, if you don't mind my suggestion, to distinguish between landings of elvers, of wild eel and production of farmed eel. Otherwise your figures are not very useful. You then need to tell us where you are going with this information and what you see as the way forward. I'd like to know.

I don't believe it 'targets' the weevil. That's not how insecticides work. They kill lots of other insects and it does not stop at insects.
"Emergency" use of highly toxic insecticide allowed to protect sitka spruce plantations - which are themselves notoriously poor for biodiversity. Seems like bad news all round. www.forestryjournal.co.uk/news/2501273...

The best future for elvering is in conservation fishing to repopulate UK rivers. We urgently need to clean up our rivers, restore our wetlands and deal with all the obstructions to migratory fish. Plenty of work there for those who love the rivers and the fishing. Maybe you could be involved?

Real name Igor Ivanov. Probably Russian. I criticise the export of elvers to Russia and he seems to think a Russian being rude and unpleasant on Bluesky will convince people that the Russian exports are ok after all. The posts in favour of the trade were never subtle but this takes the biscuit!

I didn't say I couldn't answer the question. I just don't want to get involved in whatever game is going on with this Appendix 1 campaign. I have only campaigned to stop the Russian exports and otherwise tried to keep my views to myself.

Sorry you said you find it difficult to comment to save the eel, protest cities to put the eel in apx 1 this will save the eel by stopping all trading in Europe and the UK who supply eels products what's wrong with that just leave them in the rivers to do there thing it's natural 🤔
