This has been worrying me. I’m sending you this - Entering 2026 by an unknown artist but it fills me with hope. Hoping the same for you.

The trunk is a beautiful caramel color with a gentle curving sway and curving branches. The roots are in the torso, the branches start in the chest and branch upward to the brain. A pale blue sky is the background. The tree is ever young, ever blooming, ever living.

Almond butter sugar cookies. Our gift to ourselves. Wish we could share with you all. Feliz Navidad from Deming New Mexico
A small sample of butter sugar cookies were made this evening. I made the cookie-cutter flowers (?) and John made Spritz wreath cookies with a cookie press he found at the thrift store. We flavored them with vanilla and almond. Tomorrow we’re going to try orange and lemon while the turkey cooks in the smoker.

Photo taken with my phone at Rock Hound State Park Deming NM during the Festival of the Farolitas (aka luminaries). More than 1,000 paper sacks, filled with sand and holding a small lit candle, line the pathways, crown the adobe walls and arches and illuminate the desert. This is a photo of the tower on the left half of the screen with one dark window in the upper third. The background is the craggy Florí’das range with Venus rising in the west. The golden glow of the farolitos begs you to follow their light along the parks desert paths. Magical!

The full moon on December 4 2025. Rising above the northeast ‘tail’ of the Florí’das range east of Deming New Mexico. The last of the prairie grasses are drying but will be green again (hopefully) in the spring after a time of dormancy and a little winter snow. A sign of hope, a period of hardship leading to a time of healing and new growth.

Dark blue, grey, teal storm clouds over crisped golden pasture grasses and fading green mesquite shrubs. Immediate center of shot is a prism of color beginning with violet at the horizon and graduating up and right through blue, teal, green, yellow, tangerine and red. There is a little oriole on the ground (bottom right edge of left vertical third) but he looked like a speck - perhaps mesmerized by the carnival of colors.

To your left, a not too old pair of binoculars I was using to watch a hawk on my pasture fence. Both are on the hallway counter waiting for me to leave for a Veterans Day Observance event. After which I will need to sign up (for the first time in fifty years) for food assistance at our local Veterans Aid Center in Deming New Mexico.

Listening to the complete series,in order,of these cozies. Nathaniel Parker does a livery job narrating. Characters are fun and the stories are entertaining while I do my autumn baking binge prepping for holidays.

Shadow dance October 24, 2025
Deming NM
Western sunlight, rich golden orange shade streaming in through southern window and creating shadow paintings in the eastern wall of my living room . The shadow on the left is of a planter of succulents on the inside sill. The shadow on the right is a newly planted apple sapling out of doors. The two plant shadows are separated by the structural shadow shape of the porch column.

The first of my peppers and plums…
Sweet snacking pepper ‘Healthy’. A four inch long tapered pepper, colored from its green cap: yellow to deep orange to its scarlet tip. Set upon a butcher block cutting board of varying shades of tan and pale brown. The pepper sits diagonally with its cap at one o’clock and its tip at seven o’clock. Four tiny two and one half inch plums on a butcher block cutting board. Plums are several shades although all from the same tree. From top, clockwise: deep purple-violet; yellow with hints of maroon marbling; reddish with tan ‘scalding’ in spots; another yellow with hints of maroon.

…a morning visitor at a B&B in Las Cruces, NM…wished I could have convinced him to come down and come home with me.
A marmalade male cat sitting on the branch of the ancient tree in the courtyard/patio of the room we stayed in at an historic inn/gallery in Las Cruces. The tree bark is almost black with age and very roughly textured. The leaves of pale green make a nice backdrop for this chubby handsome fellow. He has a distinct M above and between his golden eyes. He is watching me have my morning coffee. His expression is very intelligent and friendly.
