In Nicole Parker’s work, a sense of wistful romance is woven through each canvas. She often depicts the nocturnal world bathed in soft, distant light. In addition there is a recurring motif of dwellings that typically possess a beckoning glow, suggesting a safe haven of comfort, warmth and quietude.

Taikan Yokoyama was a prominent figure in modern Japanese painting (Nihonga), who helped revitalize the art form. He developed the mōrōtai “blurred style", using soft color washes without outlines. He later became known for masterful monochrome ink paintings, particularly depictions of Mount Fuji.

Erik Kriek (1966, NL) is an illustrator and graphic novelist. His work has graced every printable surface: posters, record sleeves, skateboards, even sneakers. His first full-length graphic novel, De Balling (The Balling), was published in 2019. His latest, De Kuil (The Pit), was published in 2023.

Léon Spilliaert is often considered a painter but he was primarily a draftsman. While a painter typically works with brushes and paint on canvas or plaster, Spilliaert employed other techniques. He used ink, pastel, watercolor, gouache and pencil, and worked almost exclusively on paper or cardboard.

Monica Morrill is a landscape artist from British Columbia. She was born on Vancouver Island where she grew up exploring the beaches, forests and mountains of the west coast. A self-taught artist, she uses many layers of acrylic paints on canvas to depict colourful images of the Canadian landscape.

Early in her career, Sylvia Alberts was recognized as a folk artist, but after she began painting on Monhegan she moved to a “designed realism.” In her landscapes, Alberts captures the delicacy and splendor of island cloud formations and brilliance of the sun’s reflection on the sea around Monhegan.

Matthew Wong (Canada) started drawing and painting in 2011, at the age of 27. Within the space of just a few years, he developed a highly personal style, using intense colours to paint imaginative landscapes. Vincent van Gogh was a great source of inspiration for Wong.

The central theme of Kimmo Kaivanto’s work is nature. Through it, the artist communicated his feelings, but also his concerns about the state of nature and the ecological balance. Kaivanto’s best-known work is When the Sea Dies II (1973), which reminds the viewer of a concrete environmental problem.

The Austrian painter and graphic artist Josef Stoitzner passed many years of teaching at the local art scene, a.o. at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna. In his own artistic work he excelled in atmospheric landscape paintings and still lifes, also he specialized in color woodcuts and lithographs.
