Losing the battle with entropy. She/They
It's a "real terms" tax increase, if your wages rise in line with inflation and it pushes you into a new tax band, you will certainly feel poorer. You will have less money to spend because your wage increase was supposed to allow for increased prices, but an chunk of that has now gone in taxes.

Hit is a perfectly normal term to use to describe something like this, it just means it's sudden and impactful, it doesn't imply violence or even necessarily something negative. I could say "it hit me" when talking about having a great idea.

And only certain sections of those struggling will be helped, those who have been affected by the 2 child cap will be better off but others won't necessarily be.

Where are you getting £100/150k from? The frozen income tax thresholds will affect people at all levels from the basic rate threshold upwards. Someone on a very low income may find themselves pushed into paying income tax just due to inflation, but they won't be any wealthier in real terms.
November 27, 2025 at 12:47 PM
Yeah this doesn't even make sense, if you're on £100k between you, don't have a mortgage, are able to save £12 grand a year tax free plus more money available to put into savings and investments, I don't really see the problem. Don't they have pensions? My heart bleeds for them.

What ridiculous "logic": "you don't like turkey because if you did you'd be roasting whole turkeys all the time"... Um, no, people are not roasting turkeys all the time because they're fucking massive, so unless you've got 8 kids or something it would be a stupid amount of food!
November 27, 2025 at 3:57 AM
I think the key part there is "well roasted", a lot of people are bad at cooking turkey (which to be fair, is understandable, as it's such a large bird and most people only cook them once a year!). It's very easy to end up with underflavoured dry meat if you're not careful.

Unfortunately there are some who will only take the problem seriously when it's happening to white people, especially those from "friendly" countries like the UK. I hope those people see this and it makes them stop and think for a moment, and maybe even find more empathy for brown ICE victims.

I love that there's a trend towards older ppl taking on risky protests, we've got the same in the UK with Palestine Action, where retirees are putting themselves on the line, getting arrested for peaceful protest. It works well, nobody wants to see someone's grandma dragged off by cops.

Those particular ones are full of rage and sick of everyone's shit, but too dumb or deluded to see who their rage is best directed at.

I think it's power and popularity he's drawn to, not just psychopathy. It's just that unfortunately too many powerful people are basically psychopaths.

Btw I'm not saying *no* pain relief. There are other options that don't interfere with birthing instincts so much. And even epidurals have their place, I just think ppl need to be aware that they can mess with the way things unfold. I ended up with a ventouse delivery as I couldn't push properly.
November 23, 2025 at 10:14 AM
I don't think childbirth can be compared to gallbladder surgery, birth is an active process, surgery is usually completely passive. The downside of epidurals is that you can no longer feel what you're doing so it can interfere with the process. I regret accepting one for my last birth.

When Trump said he would deport foreign criminals, do you think it was people like this that anyone thought he was talking about?! It's just such a stupid inhuman policy.
November 21, 2025 at 11:16 AM
Yep, I think that's it, the main point of the tariffs is to use them as a bargaining chip. He's obsessed with "making deals", and tariffs can be used as leverage in negotiations with other countries. He's enjoying wielding the power of the US economy, and doesn't really care about collateral damage.

None of us want to be ruled by corrupt elites, but those corrupt elites are good at manipulating the narrative to direct attention away from themselves. And large swathes of the population are poorly educated (because they were failed by society) so don't know how to critically evaluate information.
November 13, 2025 at 2:49 PM
I think when it comes down to us, most people actually want the same things, we just have different information accessible to us and different lenses we view the world through, as well as differing abilities in analysing information available to us.
November 13, 2025 at 2:49 PM
It sounds like "drain the swamp" because really that's what people who voted for "drain the swamp" wanted too, they just had different ideas about which politicians and powerful people were the worst! Unfortunately mostly because they're being misled by the very swampdwellers we need to get rid of.
November 13, 2025 at 2:43 PM
I can certainly try.
November 13, 2025 at 1:56 PM
Have you seen their fathers?!
November 12, 2025 at 3:32 AM
Creepy little possessed rabbit doll thingies, they've been around a while but I think it's only in the past year they've really taken off. I don't get the obsession at all, it's just one of those weird things that've caught on in popular culture, mainly amongst kids, and adults with no personality.

I feel like AI would be more accurate and coherent?

I should add I'm pretty left wing (my views on individual issues range from left of centre to basically marxist/anarchist) & would certainly be labelled "woke", so you'd expect me to be predisposed to find it too right wing, but I mostly think they get the balance about right, on the radio at least.
November 11, 2025 at 5:48 PM
OK, but Daily Mail readers all think it's a bastion of liberal leftwing wokery, which suggests to me they can't be that far off of in terms of "balance". I don't really have an opinion on BBC TV as I don't watch much, but I do listen to R4 all the time and find they present a wide range of views.
