Is it even a holiday if you’re not trying to leave for the airport and the dog tries to ensure she’s packed too? Bonus points for pretending to be asleep so unable to move.

Feeling extremely pleased to have completed my MA! Juggling teaching, new Assistant Head role, solo parenting, writing the ESIS report, and an MA… it’s been busy! Then facing one of the toughest times of my life recently, I didn’t know if I’d get there, so smashing a distinction was a real surprise!

The evidence is clear, and stark: women are consistently and significantly absent from the history taught in schools.
We did find examples of teachers and departments working hard to rectify this, but the issue goes beyond the work of individual passionate teachers. The issue is systemic.

Summer 2025… what a ride! Checklist all done, with an additional badge for Careers (Scientist) and endless trips to the lido thrown in for good measure too.
Now for a new school year, starting with running INSET! Eek!

Huge thanks to @scl1979.bsky.social for organising a wonderful day at @kewgardens.bsky.social Herbarium and Library. Amazing papers from historians, and great to see how material culture is being used in more schools, particularly from our HA series. Exploring their archive of objects was so special

A very emotional goodbye and overwhelmed by the wonderful messages from students and staff. It’s been quite the year, and lucky to have these amazing colleagues and
friends by my side as I took it on.
Now to the next adventure: Assistant Head T&L. 🎉

Is it even the holidays if you’re not tasked with running a ‘Project Day’ by your daughter and nieces? Two days learning about World War Two, a visit to International Bomber Command and a raid of Hobbycraft later… they did great!

Quiet evening reading Teaching History after a busy week, and what do I see… @tpattison.bsky.social and his fabulous Silk Roads work using scholarship from @peterfrankopan.bsky.social
This really impacted how we teach, so delighted it’s being shared by @histassoc.bsky.social
Dolly approved too!

Much less than usual this summer, but a lovely day at International Bomber Command just down the road. They do great workshops for kids including circuit building, Morse code, rations etc. Also a great exhibition on lesser known stories and marginalised voices.
