And also - arrived in the shop! Can’t wait to put it out next week.

Compelling nonfiction, beautifully told - somehow NIcholas Day ties together a volcanic eruption, Mary Shelley's Frankenstein, climate change, and the invention of the bicycle. The brisk pacing and frequent asides keeps it all engaging. Another Sibert bid.

Thanks to Libro.fm for access to the ALC.

An allegory infused with magical realism that speaks forcefully to our times. Barnes defends the humanity of Black boys, humanity that is too often trampled. Prepare to do some deep thinking about some uncomfortable truths as you listen to this remarkable book.
Thanks @libro.fm for the ALC. #mglit

One of the many photos I took of them. We had a mama, papa, and baby.

It is wonderful. You'll have to try @authorgracelin.bsky.social's newest one - beautiful, also.

Thinking about this novel since I heard the news from Minneapolis today. Once again, #mglit gets to the deepest heart of an issue. This uniquely American horror has to be stopped.

Tread carefully if your heart is tender with grief, especially if you are a mother or daughter. Evans turns an unflinching eye on familial relationships, all of the joys and regrets. Beautifully written in letters, some with the acerbic wit of the protagonist, Sybil. Perfect narration by the cast.

The first adult book from Louis Sachar (Holes, Sideways Stories from Wayside School). It is an "adult" book because the protagonist is an adult and there are some references to adult themes. But, Sachar brings all the hope and wonder from middle grade to this beauty. I absolutely loved it.

Love Kate Messner's books. Have you read this one? It is fantastic!

Daniel Nayeri does it again - this time with historical fiction. Set in Iran during WWII and told on a human scale through the eyes of young Babak and his sister, it is an ode to teachers and survivors. Nayeri is a perfect narrator. Wish it had lasted longer! Thanks to @libro.fm for the ALC!

I love Pop! Goes the Nursery Rhyme by @fuse8.bsky.social and @atsurumi.bsky.social - fantastic rhythm and perfect page turns.

Loved Graciela in the Abyss by Meg Medina.

Two voices in two times on the same North Carolina land - present day Nikki and historical Luella. @dolenperkinsvaldez.bsky.social weaves the narratives to show how the past affect the present. The narrators give the story richness and depth. The story is as beautiful as the cover.

A wise older dog - Ripley - protects her "girls" - Charlie and her mom - as her body slows and they grieve the loss of Charlie's dad. Addressing grief head-on, @mccallhoylebooks.bsky.social provides support to families finding own their way, with gentle pacing and careful honesty. #mglit

Loved this terrific read from @wendyshang.bsky.social - friendship and family story lines wrapped up in summer swim team. Long days at the pool, team traditions, complicated friendships, more complicated family - all ring true with a fresh, authentic voice. Great summer read for young readers!

Jason Reynolds does it again in an audio-only masterpiece with a full cast and original music. The story of 18-year old Sty and his friends who form an underground band - the words sing just the way you would expect from Reynolds. The production values take this story to a whole different level.

Thank you to Richard at @interabangbooks.bsky.social for handselling me this gem about the Wolfskinder - German children forced to live on their own as the Russian army pushed across Germany at the close of WWII. Beautifully written and haunting. If you are in Dallas, go to this amazing bookstore.

@katemessner.com's beautifully written story of grief and hope. Finn is a flawed boy, son of a flawed hero, grappling with grief following his father's death. He finds answers - grudgingly - by climbing mountains and writing poetry. He is supported by thoughtful adults and a slobbery dog. #mglit

This #picturebook rocks. @fuse8.bsky.social knows what works in a read aloud, and this one is pitch perfect for a raucous storytime. Makes me ache for a room full of preschoolers to read to right this minute. Funny picture books do not get their due often enough, and this one is hilarious.

@pablocartaya.bsky.social dives into the ways grief can manifest itself through a family. Gonzalo, his abuelo, and his mother are on their separate journeys until the paths combine in a vintage, powder blue Oldsmobile. Layered with Cuban history and fantasy. Really - just a triumph.

The firing of Dr. Carla Hayden - the most qualified person to ever hold the position of Librarian of Congress - is an absolute outrage. I bet none of the past Librarians pulled off toddler storytime. The woman is an American treasure.

Missing my mom today, too. Sending strength.

Today would have been my mother's 84th birthday. I miss her with every breath I take. She loved fiercely and unconditionally. Hold your people close in her honor.
