It’s really difficult because if you challenge them, you’re oppressing them and their opinion but they have no idea how much you’re holding your tongue whenever they kick off about it.

She’s the biggest hearted person I know and highly intelligent, so I find her attitude to be confounding. It’s also a position of extraordinary privilege, because I suspect she can’t imagine that anyone close to her could die from a vaccine-preventable disease. (And I hope you feel better soon 😊)

I’ve seen her, like many people, slide further into this belief system since COVID. Her close family are even more anti-vax so I think that has played a part too.

It’s what she perceives as coercion that really gets her worked up (childhood vaccination is essentially mandatory in Australia). She also sees it as putting some artificial and unnecessary in your body.

I have a treasured friend who is anti-vax and she sees childhood vaccines as conformity (as opposed to what they are: an act of community).
