Budgets are easy to cut, and grants are disappearing fast. The need to fund and staff local emergency management are critical.

Understand the EM function in your local area, at the state level, and though you have probably heard things, the federal level. Understand their staffing, their budget, and press your elected leaders to ensure they have the resources they need. Chances are, they do not.

I implore you, this month, take a little time to get to know emergency management. Understand their work in the 5 phases (prevention/protection, preparedness, response, recovery, and mitigation).
