A zoomed-in look at a potential US boxart for Mario & Wario- ultimately only released in Japan- for the Super Nintendo. Mario is stumbling around with a bucket on his head as a generic fairy is helping him and blocks are falling around him. Meanwhile, Wario menacingly lurks in the background with the wrong colours entirely- dark blue hat and shirt, black overalls and red gloves.

From what I've found so far, the closest to any kind of confirmation is this article from MAXIMUM saying a port was 'under consideration' by AM2, everything else appears to be just rumour.

"FIGHTING SONIC" AVAILABILITY TBA PRICE TBA Hot news is emanating from the labs of acclaimed Sega coin-op creators, AM2. They have begun work on an all-new 3D fighting game using the same Model-2B technology as Fighting Vipers - but this time Sonic the Hedgehog is the star of the show. AM2 director Mr. Suzuki and Sonic creator Mr. Naka gave a recent joint-interview to discuss their plans for the project, which is currently in the very early stages of preparation. Says Mr. Naka: "I just couldn't think of Sonic as a fighting game - I was worried about whether he could really fight, considering his large head and short arms... I was amazed at how smoothly Sonic moved - we were delighted. At this stage in development, I felt that if my early impressions were good and Mr. Suzuki could make it this good, we would have no more worries." Mr. Suzuki added: "If Mr. Naka had disapproved, I'd have given up." In the version shown, the graphics were at a very early stage, with only flat polygon renditions of Sonic and Tails duking out on an early version of the infamous Green Hill Zone. The animation is superb, matching Fighting Vipers and VF2, but this time with the action firmly based in the realms of fantasy, AM2 can really let their imagination run riot. The usual cast of Sonic characters - Tails, Knuckles, and of course, Robotnik are planned to appear. However, Mr. Naka personally requested that AM2 expand on the characters and the Sonic world of Moebius and is looking forward to AM2's contribution. "Anyone who attempts a Sonic game has a duty to create new characters, so we shall have a go at one or two," said Mr. Suzuki. Despite the usual rumours, the official word from AM2 on a Saturn conversion is that at the moment it is only "under consideration".

Looking up info on the rumoured Sonic the Fighters port to the Saturn (leaning towards 'considered but never really started') and, well, I couldn't find a Mr. Han Lee attached to Square LA / Square USA, so kinda doubting the veracity of this for some reason!!

The segment is adorned with a stock picture of Sonic and screenshtots of what is clearly the arcade version of Sonic the Fighters. SEGA SATURN UNTOLD POTENTIAL When you see the shots of Saturn Fighting Vipers we have for you this month, you will be amazed. It seems the new Sega Graphics Library (SGL 2.1) is pulling tricks out of the Saturn that even the world's leading software developers are stunned to find. Most notably Squaresoft who, as you know, recently shunned Nintendo to concentrate on PlayStation development (Final Fantasy VII, and Tobal No. 1) A representative of Squaresoft LA, Mr.Han Lee, posted an excited message on the Internet recently, detailing a private demonstration of the new Windows 95 hosted Saturn development environment, and SGL 2.1, which took place behind the scenes at E3. Here's what he saw: "a demo driving game, sort of like Gran Chaser (Cyber Speedway) that had a real-time Gouraud shaded lightning and ran at 60 frames per second. In a tunnel scene, there were actually real-time generated light casting from the tunnel windows onto the walls." "VF2 Akira with real-time Gouraud shaded lighting." "3D Sonic doing Fighting Sonic moves on Saturn. What was so impressive about this was that the entire process took palce click-and-drop easy." Sega Europe quizzed thier Japanese counterparts about this information, and were told that the content was accurate. So to fan the flames of desire even more, we'll leave with this final comment from Han Lee: "One of the senior programmers of Square Japan recently told me tat Saturn has several undocumented DSPs that Sega never released any information about. If this is indeed true, we still haven't seen half the potential of what the Saturn can really do!"

Oh, and I also figured out how to mod the PS3 version (via emulation at least) so I can play as Eggman without a mech, look at how silly this is! Good, good.

Thanks for that, I figured you'd have a better idea! I was leaning towards Rei or Shuu myself but couldn't quite tell~ Yeah, the character choices are pretty interesting for this, and also distinct from the Game Boy game it takes its subtitle from (although they both have Uighur)

A Korean document with information on Fist of the North Star: 10 Big Brawls for the King of the Universe, a 1995 arcade game by Banpresto. The names of the playable characters are presented in English with some typos or alternate romanisations- Rei, Kenshiro (spelled Kenshirom), Raoh, Shuu, Madara, Toki, Mamiya (spelled Mamiua) and Uighur (spelled Uuqur). Two screenshots are shown in black and white- one of the title screen with Kenshiro in the background, and another of an in-game screenshot with presumably Raoh facing off against another character, although it's difficult to tell who. A selection of screenshots from Deadly Sport, a 1993 arcade game by Sammy. Various combat scenes are shown as wel as a versus screen showing Sheena, a woman in combat gear against Jester, a jester.

Doing some research on prototype arcade fighting games, and of course I had to dig up one of my favourite stories- Rise of the Robots.
