At a massive public meeting about Sable Offshore's efforts to restart an old defunct pipeline in Santa Barbara County. 8 state agencies came to discuss their roles; this type of meeting with this many agencies is very unusual. Everyone is mad.

You mean Eugene Meyer, the Fed Chairman under Herbert Hoover who resigned when FDR came into office, declined to endorse presidential candidates during each of FDR's massively successful reelection campaigns? That's your example of why newspapers shouldn't endorse?
