used to handling volunteers & they're amazing. I get great experience, and they get some data entry - everyone wins. The people they *depend* on, they pay. If you are a non-profit, get funding from a donor and PAY someone. Don't ask an early career person to give you free, load-bearing labour.

that is - to my mind - quite a skilled and load-bearing one, involving expert knowledge and experience (it specifically asks for it), more than a half day a week. Early career academic volunteering should give as much as it takes, and if it doesn't, it should PAY. I volunteer for an org. that is 2/3

Sounds like a misery, but to be fair you do get the money back pretty promptly from Delay Repay.

The difference even in the last 12 months is remarkable. I still think you could tell last year, but not any more.

And God help you if you go with your husband, your marriage breaks down and you discover you can't get your children back out.

Oh no. How will they exploit vulnerable people then?

I completely caved and am doing my PhD in it as a mature student - only one more year left before I can reap the rewards with those postdoctoral big bucks that are presumably waiting for me, right? Right..? 👀

I remember a thread on Mumsnet from a long time ago where someone asked women to reveal what their job was if they earned 100k+ AND had a nice home/family life, and pretty much every answer was accountant. 🫥

That's wild. I was honestly surprised it couldn't parse basic, uncomplicated facts, especially when most of the data I was asking it about was literally right there in a nearly identical table on Wikipedia (I just wanted it to add another column of data).

Yesterday I asked it to build what I thought would be a simple table of readily available archaeological info to save me some time & was faced with the suprising information that Ramesses III was apparently buried in tombs KV9, KV10, KV11, KV12 AND KV13. Good luck, nameless "business student".
