I had the pleasure of meeting Edna O’Brien a few times - first at Brighton Festival then @budlitfest.bsky.social. I adored her wit, her charm, her resilience, her passion for literature and her refusal to suffer fools. What a joy to listen to this nourishing interview with @sineadgleeson.bsky.social
The great Edna O’Brien would’ve been 94 today. In 2015, I chaired an event with her, and hardly had to ask any questions. She spoke - as she wrote - in perfect paragraphs. Erudite, funny, and one of few writers I ever interviewed to get a standing ovation. Listen: m.soundcloud.com/dlr-soundclo...

Lindsay Reade. Gillian Gilbert. Ang Matthews. Cath Carroll. DJ Paulette. Stella Hall. Linder Sterling. Kay Carroll. So many brilliant women played a pivotal role in Factory’s story. Thanks for acknowledging & amplifying some of their voices @ophiraophira.bsky.social @manchestermill.bsky.social
"The question is not one of whether women were involved in the label’s success, but rather why it’s taken just under half a century for their involvement to be recognised."

@ophiraophira.bsky.social on the forgotten women of Factory, for today's weekend read.

She helped build Factory Records from the ground up. So how did Lindsay Reade get cut out of the story?
‘What is this with all these men? You know? What about me?’
