Hi, new and migrated writer friends! Do we do introductions here? I write surreal/magical-real fiction esp. about experiences of outside accepted norms: divergent minds & bodies, chronic illness, feminism, the uncanny, slippages & erasures etc...

The misconception that writers are good at spelling because we, uh, write...

Nope, I'm a storyteller. Spelling is boring as fuck.

The great thing about puppy not letting me sleep is that I actually get so much done at 6 am now because AFTER she thoroughly wakes me get up, wants to play, eat, poo, etc, she wants to take a 2-hour lape nap. 😂

Who else is writing at 6 a.m.?

Much to say, but for now, here’s something I made a while ago that felt hopeful and still does––despite. Let’s never stop fighting for a better world. #autism

Autistic humans deserve to be valued, supported, and deemed worthy for being who we are, as we are, at all levels of need. Despite what RFK wants you to believe, human value is not based on “functionality;” children are not merely a “resource” to feed the economic machine. #autism #neurodivergence

Yes, I did name my dog Bunny partly just so I could say, "I love you, Bunny" (Mona Awad). She's a literary gal. Plus, naming animals what they're not is my favorite.

Reminder that writing memoir is not cathartic. More like having an illness & the only recovery is pushing thru to other side. Or being haunted knowing you have a story you must tell. Or being the mush-goo of a whatever a caterpillar is in a chrysalis, hoping to Nature you get a butterfly.

Feeling the #AWP fomo. I hope folks had a blast - hoping to catch you all in 2026 when it's closer to me!!

Love this, and I agree with Joy, I see this as very motivating & helps make the writing propulsive and urgent!
Something I think about often when writing: No one owes me anything, least of all their time. Yet when I put a story out into the world, I'm saying “This is worth your time.” At every stage of the process, we need to remember this reader whose time we’re asking for.

My advice to those of you going to #AWP is to prioritize naps. Think of AWP as a series of naps in between which you see amazing people. I'm sad to miss you all this year, but I'll be napping elsewhere in your honor.

Important and eye-opening essay from @sfmontgomery.bsky.social I could recognise a lot of this. Someone once told me a CNF piece about my illness lacked stakes... 🤷‍♂️

Our world is frequently devastating and unconscionable, and also, have you even SEEN a tree? Trees are glorious, hope-giving, kinder creatures. I have not yet managed to become one but at least in my time I can honor them.

Taught myself to animate - not. easy. ✨
Made this comic into an animation! Writing and drawing allowed me to express my autistic struggles before I knew what those struggles were or that they had names. ❤️
