TORRO tornado site investigator, maths tutor, keen hiker, mediocre runner. Connecting home to towns across the UK by foot. Loves weather!
Waiting for my lift back now at Upavon. An old fashioned and welcoming pub where I can overhear tales of Denzel the dog, who sounds quite the rascal.

This small adventure to be continued in the Spring I think.

Sunset.
Some landowners are more welcoming than others. I was pleased to see one allowing people to enjoy the river. Thank you Mr Wookey. So often river access is limited to a privileged few.

I was curious to see the trout farm adjoining the river. I wondered how much impact it had on the river. Another church, this one welcoming of those in need of refreshment, but it was getting dark.

A land full of farms, river and tiny churches. Quiet country.

At Pewsey I joined the Pewsey and Avon trail. It runs to Salisbury. The planning from this point has been done for me.
Pewsey seemed nice. I said hello to Alfred.

Free apples along the way and then crossing the Keenet and Avon canal to reach the Avon, the main target of this walk.

For a few miles, after talking with lady who said the area was chill because of the white horses and ley lines, I shared paths only with sheep, crows and kites.

I dunno about ley lines, but the landscape was pretty special. The connection to ancient times strong.

The offer of a lift and a free day. Walkies!
I had an idea to connect Avebury to Salisbury. Its about 66km. So this is Part 1.

Avebury with its multitude of standing stones was uncharacteristically busy for a cold November sunday morning.

What a murky day today. But brightened by seeing a feathered thorn moth.

Ahhh. Sitting in the garden for lunch wearing shorts, while roses and other flowers bloom....
Hang on though, its mid November.

I've sent a request to all my tutees parents asking for permission to pause lessons and take my students outside for any visible aurora tonight.
Fingers crossed 🤞

All of the damage was to personal homes and had mostly been repaired. No photos to share for privacy reasons, but it was a beautiful day for the undertaking.

We did a zillion other exploring walks, but you don't want to see my whole holiday album. 🤣 We also used multiple types of trains, buses, boats and cable cars. Even took the ridiculous pirate ship at Hakone. The shinkansen was utterly awesome.

But now I'm totally shattered. 🤣🤣🤣

We also climbed Mt Misen in Miyajima. Which was just dreamy.

Kyoto was beautiful and we mostly avoided the crowds. A highlight was hiking the kyoto trail.

In Nara, the deer were so naughty. I was bitten and chased. But they were also so cute.

In Hakone, volcanic activity.

Hello bluesky again. Been on my holidays, not walking for once - though we did do some pretty spectacular short hikes in Japan.
Incredibly jetlagged and full of cold... Wish me luck for work later.

In Kamicochi we saw monkeys and mountains

My neighbour has presented me with an amaryllis to grow. I've been included in her family competition this year.

Any tips #flower people? I don't want to be last!

The RD moved the finish away from Hengistbury Head. Wise! Moors Country Valley park was actually pretty sheltered and the wind didnt really kick in until Holes Bay.

Nice course. Fab support all along the course. Recommend!

So... How was it?
It was certainly pretty wild. 😁

We had to climb over fallen trees. I was pelted on the head with acorns and sandblasted from behind by sand carried on 50mph gusts. The waves were wild and at one point there was icy cold rain. But I unexpectedly got a 50k PB. Hurrah! 🏅

Its Race to The Sea Bournemouth 50km tomorrow. Am I prepared, have I trained for this? Errr nope. Moving swiftly on...

When should races be cancelled due to severe weather warnings? Not an easy question for a Race Director.
