From DC.

The drawing is of the famous research worm C. elegans, in which microRNAs were discovered.

C. elegans has neither a brain nor a spine. 🧪

The NIH has a predoctoral fellowship called the F31. A subsection (F31 Diversity) is earmarked for diverse candidates, many of whom would have been a shoe-in for regular fellowships. All those applications are being thrown out rather than integrated into the larger pool. Segregation is the point.
I got the screenshot from a reliable source, but you don't have to take my word for it. bsky.app/profile/jlwe...
The CSR comm I'm on just pulled all Diversity F grants from the current review cycle. These apps are reviewed alongside (and by the same criteria) as all other F grants. So, instead of helping these trainees, they will actually be punished by having their grant reviews delayed at least 1 cycle !?!?

If you have been affected by the fires in LA, or are concerned about your ability to keep precious Drosophila strains going during the latest funding crisis, we will host your strains as a backup. Please email me.

Please amplify. If you are also able to host fly strains, add your name as well.

For those asking how unusual it is for NIH review panels to be cancelled: I do not recall study sections ever being cancelled during my 30-year career except for during the “sequestration” period around 2012-2013 when there was, I think, a government shutdown.

Hi folks! Sign up to be a mentee through the C. elegans community mentor match program. This includes peer mentoring for mid-career and senior scientists!
Hey worm friends: 114 people signed up to be mentors in this year's C. elegans Community Mentor Match Program 🎉

While this is awesome, in previous years we've had more mentors than mentees. We need more mentees!

📢 Please re-post. Even better, email the sign-up form to your lab members.

I know I’m late getting to it, but The Bear season 2 is some of the best TV I’ve ever seen. Running a lab is a slightly less chaotic version of running a restaurant
