A huge turn out to face off the far right in Exeter (again). #ExeterIsForEveryone #RefugeesWelcome

Great article @jamesgdyke.info! We absolutely must turn off the fossil fuels spigot.

The best chance right now is to make sure the govt doesn't approve Rosebank. It's oil & gas would produce 254 million tonnes of CO2Eeq when burned.

Would you write a blog about that?

(I've emailed you too)

Very proud of Exeter today. Huge turn out to face off the far right. #ExeterIsForEveryone #RefugeesWelcome 🍉🌿🌈💚

Exeter people! This Saturday I'm running activities in the Transit Shed on the Quay as part of the Salmon Run.

Come and make a postcard or badge, learn about salmon, and enjoy music from Tess and the Durbervilles. And of course cheer the runners as they pass through.

We'll be there 10.30–12.30

This will be the government’s first big climate test.

Rejecting Rosebank would demonstrate its seriousness about its climate commitments.

Approving it would seriously undermine the UK’s credibility.

Now the developer, Equinor, has to submit a new Environmental Statement to reapply.

Thanks to my and @wealdactiongroup.bsky.social's landmark legal win, Equinor can no longer hide the enormous harm Rosebank would do the climate.

It would create more than 200 million tonnes of greenhouse gases.

Yesterday I joined Parents For Future campaigners to deliver a letter to the prime minister, asking him not to approve the Rosebank oil field.

Rosebank – the UK’s biggest undeveloped oil field – had its permit quashed as it had failed to properly account for its downstream climate impacts.

We've already beaten Rosebank once - back in January, the Scottish courts said it had been permitted unlawfully - and quashed its planning consent.

We can do it again!

Rosebank would be a disaster for the climate, producing more CO2 than the 28 poorest countries do in a year.

It would trash any chance of meeting UK climate goals.

Experts are clear: we already have enough oil and gas fields in production to meet our energy demands.

Thank you @richardabetts.bsky.social for letting me plug the #StopRosebank campaign at #BeautifulDays

Any day now, Equinor could reapply to develop Rosebank: the UK's biggest undeveloped oil field. We need to make sure the government says no!

Some reasons below...

Like almost everyone else, I have been feeling appalled, angry and helpless about the horrific news from Gaza. On Friday I joined my brother on a swim challenge to raise money for Medical Aid for Palestinians. I wrote about it here.

Reading it in the Picos de Europa made it extra resonant.

Despite millennia of human occupation, nature is less trashed here than in the UK. It adds a frisson to a forest hike to know there are bears and wolves nearby, even if there's next to no chance of meeting them.

Recommended summer read! Nature's Ghosts by @sophieyeo.bsky.social

Thoughtful book which asks if it's possible to bring back past ecosystems (no…) and how we can learn from the past to support wilder places in the future.

Packed with research but with a gentle tone that makes it a joy to read.

💥 That’s a game-changer for every community resisting dirty energy.

This wasn’t just a courtroom win. It was the result of relentless grassroots organising, years of resistance, and the strength of communities who refused to back down.

A year ago today, I won a legal fight in the Supreme Court, culmination of a five-year battle through the courts. I am overwhelmed by the impacts it has had, which are summarised in this post by the @wealdactiongroup.bsky.social

What a huge honour to be named Campaigner of the Year at the Sheila McKechnie Foundation Awards. Recognising the vital role of grassroots climate campaigners

And to follow Doreen Lawrence, who got a Lifetime Achievement Award.

“The dinosaurs had no agency. We do.”

Some thoughts on an interesting (and not entirely pessimistic) talk by @michaelemann.bsky.social and @gsiexeter.bsky.social on our fragile climate and what can we learn from changes in the past.

A blog on the gift of a painting, and how the tanker collision in the North Sea (and the two-plus oil and chemical leaks a week) underline that we need to move away from the fossil fuel industry as fast as possible. The govt is consulting on that now - please have your say.

And now the transport minister is "minded to approve" a second runway at Gatwick.

The Planning Inspectorate recommended REFUSAL of this in November for various reasons including that the greenhouse gas emissions will affect our ability to meet carbon targets.

A pretty terrible couple of days for those concerned about aviation and the climate.

First the Committee on Climate Change has dropped its advice that there should be “no net increase” in airport capacity and projects ever more people flying. A 28% increase by 2050! (to 402 million passengers)

Looking forward to hearing from Ben Franta, professor of climate litigation, at @gsiexeter.bsky.social seminar starting now.

I was pleased to receive a review copy of ‘The Law of Net Zero and Nature Positive’, a new book by barristers at @39essexchambers.bsky.social But barely qualified to review it. I've shared some thoughts here: sarahfinch.co.uk?p=111

I'm speaking at a fundraiser for @eastsurreygreens.bsky.social next week.

They are a strong local party, but currently have just two councillors on Surrey County Council. Surrey needs more Greens!

Please come for a delicious dinner & help boost campaign funds.

Huge win for the climate! The Rosebank and Jackdaw oil and gas fields are ruled unlawful and consent quashed.

Amazing victory for @stopcambo.bsky.social and @greenpeaceuk.bsky.social and so pleased that my win on Horse Hill contributed to this.
