And back when I worked in film, I was a the premiere of a horrible movie, and this cameraman kept insisting I was Turkish, even though I speak flawless Egyptian Arabic. (But, like many Egyptians, I do have Turkish roots—I just forgot to mention it.)

And with this year’s Ramadan being less than a month away, I’m reflecting on the fact that some problems of last year’s Ramadan that seemed impossible to go away have, in fact, gone away.
