2nd Century AD, discovered in 1870 in an insula at San Paolo alla Regola. Made of Palombino and basalt tesserae.

According to Orcadian folklore, the spring equinox is when the Mither o' the Sea returns to Orkney and dethrones her ancient enemy Teran, the spirit of winter. She then reigns over the ocean until the autumn equinox, bringing warm weather and calmer waters. #FolkyFriday
