In Icelandic we have 'Ókind' for monster. But the translation is un-sheep. So everything not a sheep is dangerous.

I feel like it mostly works because basically everybody has had that experience, so it makes the inefficiency and inaccuracy angle much more tangible regardless of the specific use case or interests of the Powerful Person in question.

It's not exactly a one-liner but I think you can use the analogy of an email inbox. A well-managed inbox is a wealth of high-quality information that can be quickly and accurately accessed for any number of uses. Relying on search in a poorly-managed email is basically pointless.

I was honestly kind of scared but felt really silly for it, and I kind of wish I'd had someone proactively show up with something to reduce that anxiety -- I was too overwhelmed with all the other health stuff that necessitated the MRI to find it for myself.

.....dammit, I need to take my own advice don't I?

You might not "succeed" -- you might not fix everything, it might not help you much or even at all. It might feel worse before it feels better. You might work through one thing and another pops up.

You are still worth all that time and all that energy.

The time and energy necessary to find out what you can do to help yourself (if anything) can be a lot. The energy needed to moderate your hopes, to cope with disappointment, to add yet another appointment to the calendar... it's a lot.

You are worth it.

FWIW I think they look lovely! Definitely make sock 2.

Now that you've done magic loop, do you plan to try 2-at-a-time? It's my favorite method -- I usually work one sock from each end of the same cake of yarn which might lead to a bit more time spent on yarn management, but it's so much fun to have 1 circ and 1 ball of yarn turn into 2 socks!

You could also try some template ones (if you have stencils), or have people draw the outline of whatever they want on a blank sheet, and then cut through both the book page and the sketch.

You could offer a setup with lights (an overhead projector would probably be great) -- people could pose for a really traditional one, or you could make transparencies with some designs for people to choose from.

Something like www.rct.uk/resources/ma... or www.instructables.com/Creating-Silhouettes. My thought was that you would cut the design out of the page and back it with black construction paper or similar.

Book folding (try searching for free measure-mark-fold patterns) will help you use up lots of hardcover volumes. If you have antique-looking books doing old-school silhouette art is quite fun, too. If you're down for the possibility of glue mishaps, snowflakes and wreaths can be fun for all ages.
