Today WaPo announced a partnership with OpenAI. And here it is: Zombie Gillian Brockell. I DID NOT WRITE THIS.

I feel like we need to keep saying this because it’s so insane: This is a legal U.S. resident who has been detained for over a month now for his political opinions.
The Department of Homeland Security denied Mahmoud Khalil permission to attend the birth of his first child, who was delivered at a New York hospital on Monday, according to emails reviewed by The New York Times.

Mr. Khalil, a permanent resident detained in Louisiana, had requested a monitored furlough for the birth. His request was denied in less than an hour.

We're gonna open up to volunteers for research and curation soon, promise. I'm just working on the data model right now with @moacir.com and @lindsaythomas.net and there's no better way to do a model than fighting data points 1 by 1.

This is incredibly bad. What the IRS would be saying to millions of people, if they cave to Trump’s extraordinary demands, is “don’t file your taxes, because if you do, we’ll use it against you.”

It would undermine and blow up generations of trust-building. It’s madness.

It doesn't take much to fund a humanities scholar's research, yet even that has ended.
If the rumored gutting of the NEH is indeed happening (and I wouldn’t be surprised- it felt inevitable in the last few weeks) it will mean that an already deeply inadequate funding situation for the humanities will become reduced to almost nothing

This has been a discussion among many of us for years now. Funding for Humanities was already grossly inadequate; we never had anything to compare to the NSF and NIH. We had a little from NEH, a little from ACLS, but most of us were producing our scholarship with next to no resources. 1/2
