I keep thinking I might end up turning my house into a sanctuary for fleeing Albertans 😔. In the meantime I want to build a fun and pretty world for people to retreat to, online and for ppl who visit. Like gawd it's tough over there!

The next provincial election is in 2027 and the time to stop them was 2023 or earlier. Alberta, ya blew it.

The Alberta gov't is seizing what they think is an unsinkable, unstoppable Christian Nationalist movement. They're not "scared" or "creating distractions" or "covering up". They believe they're stepping into the light and by mid 2026 they'll be deporting immigrants

And yeah the whole "grass is greener" thing is a myth esp re: climate change, but if you're living in a place that's become hostile in almost every way and no one in power gives a shit, you're allowed to do the very human thing and migrate. It's kinda what humans have historically done well

What most relatively comfortable people see as "risk" is actually just temporary inconvenience. You can project manage yourself into a much cooler life if you just accept it's gonna be hard for a bit. Reclaiming your future's light is very possible and you'll never regret it

Compared to the "risk" of moving my family to a more affordable place that takes climate change seriously and values close communities, where I knew my skills would thrive - I don't really get why people think my choice was radical

And it isn't "doomerism" to read data, realize the situation is fucked, and dip the fuck out.

Especially as a person finely tuned by a life and career in risk analysis, leaving was a no brainer. The risks of staying - risks to my family's mental, physical, and financial health were ludicrously high

So seeing stories like this feels like seeing what's coming for Southern AB cities.
There are stacks of easily searchable data that clearly point to this outcome, yet no one wants to look, especially politicians and policy makers www.sbs.com.au/news/article...

'The worst possible situation': This major city only has a few days of water left
Tehran's main water sources are in a dire situation, with two major dams reaching what officials are calling "dead capacity".
