Really worth reading the full article for an understanding of the false promise of CCS
Renewables are exceeding expectations - but so are emissions. Why?

Part of the fossil economy's staying power comes from false promises of techno-neutralisation. CCS is the OG machine saviour. A new blog for you, on why its second coming hasn't come.

Yes to this whole thread, but especially this. We need energy transition to be for everyone and to communicate that renewables are how we stop (fossil fuel) energy bill fuelled #inflation.
We all need to become eco-populists. That means championing policies that significantly lower daily costs while lowering emissions. Heat Pumps for All, alongside much more robust tenant rights; free and better public transit; price caps on green energy; make polluters pay for the transition.

There are so many Climate starter packs - this one looks good, some great podcasters, scientists, journalists here BUT it's quite heavily North American. If anyone has seen a Global Majority Voices Climate starter pack please do share!

Excited that there are so many book lovers and library fans here. Feel like I’ve found the nice corner of social media (while also knowing it’s a bubble).

Agree 1.5 is dead headlines are not useful and particularly the flippant quote in this @theguardian.com headline. But this is important: "every fraction of a degree is worth fighting for. If we can’t achieve 1.5C, it will be better to get 1.6C than 1.7C, which will be better than getting 2C or more”
Am I the only one who feels icky at the slew of "1.5C is dead" articles citing exclusively Global North experts?

Isn't this precisely the type of narrative capture that only benefits large polluters? That doesn't even consult nations on their own oblivion? www.theguardian.com/environment/...

Scientists say goal to keep world’s temperature rise below 1.5C is not going to happen despite talks at Cop29 in Baku

Small light in the dark
This is BIG if the Biden Administration is willing to push it though: OECD negotiations next week can lock down 37 countries ending government-backed oil and gas finance. And it will be tough for Trump to backtrack on. www.bloomberg.com/news/article...
Biden Mulls Fossil Fuel Finance Curbs That Could Outlast Trump
The Biden administration is weighing a last-ditch push for an international agreement that would restrict financial support for foreign oil and gas projects before critical talks start in Paris.
