I forgot to say, the last post was a hippopotamus skull. This is a payara skull, it is a species of dogtooth tetra. Somewhat related to the piranha and pacu fish.

My shoulder is feeling alright now. I am enjoying drawing skulls and insects or things with exoskeleton.

As Feng Zhu said, drawing things that are exotic to me really helps, since I can't be as critical of it, compared to something familiar like a face.

Trying to play around with shapes some more. Shoulder still aching a bit, taking it easy.

I hurt my shoulder while playing badminton, so I have practiced less. But I tried drawing an eye (yes only one).

I know I said I would use inks and lately I've posted a bunch of pencil drawings but while studying I use inks. For these side projects for fun, I play with anything really ^^

I feel like gesture is easier with trees than humans 😅

I also tried oil pastels. Watching the Bob Ross live stream made me want to try landscapes more.

I watched a James Gurney video on YouTube and tried to follow along using guache.

I am keeping up with my practice but I thought it'd be boring and spammy to only post that😅.

I also draw random stuff for fun too. I watched a video by the artist Feng Zhu. He recommended beginners to draw things with large margins for error like trees, rocks and insects etc. #Art #TraditionalArt

Gesture still hard. Maybe as I learn about proportions and anatomy it might help? I've heard art practice is circular.

Small ellipses I can do with my wrist but my shoulder is not used to that motion for large ones.

Tomorrow I'll start learning perspectrive, composition and storytelling too

I have decided to use ink as my tool. Mainly fountain pens and fineliners. Mostly because I like the look of it. Also because I think it will help me learn faster. There's nothing to hide behind with ink.

#art not quite sure how tags work on this site yet...

I think the most difficult part as a beginner is getting over the embarrassment and frustration I feel from the fact that nothing is as good as I wuld like it too.

But you have to start somewhere right? I struggled with gesture, it's so hard to not focus on the forms instead.

I finally started learning art. I've been putting it off for a long time.

I've planned things kinda like university, with courses I'll take each "term". Starting with: proko gesture drawing, peter han dynamic sketching, Scott Robertson perspective book and Molly Bang Picture this for composition.
