The best part is that Suoh makes these curious slips of the tongue fairly often. So it's quite an excellent way of fleshing out her background and her character in general bit by bit, quetly and subtly, without resorting to writing exposition dumps or flashbacks.

all kinds of official and scholarly texts, esp old ones. It's a noun with more than a 100 years of usage, but it's also a "big" word that feels impersonal and cold, so it doesn't get used by actual queer people in Japan. It's like referring to yourself as "homosexual" in English, nobody does that.

yeah, that's how it's been used outside of Japan (because it's exclusively a Western yuri fandom thing), and that's why it's stupid. like, use content tags or/and and age ratings if you want to divide yuri by it having or not having handholding and other types of sesbian lex /jk
