Palestinian casualties are still overwhelming the very few hospitals left in Gaza, with images showing kids maimed and patients on the floors of which staff later clean the blood off.

*And* Israeli forces are still in Gaza bombing families and shooting starving Palestinians waiting for food at the widely condemned militarized aid distribution site backed by, yes, Israel.

It's one thing to see an IPC report on whether Gaza is experiencing famine. It's another to learn the medical consequences that starving Palestinian children currently face while Israel blocks aid trucks for miles.

These are difficult details, but I hope you read it. The kids deserve better.

It should also be noted that the Palestinian doctors working 24, 48-hour shifts are experiencing the same man-made famine as their patients.

Hospital staff are exhausted trying to save as many lives as possible and maintain morale while only having access to just a bit of rice to eat.

The stress and malnourishment that thousands of pregnant Palestinian women face are often leading to premature births, with many of the babies struggling with sepsis, respiratory issues and congenital abnormalities. And with no nutrition, docs say those babies can't fight off infections.

Doctors stress that malnutrition in kids 3 and under are causing severe cognitive damage. Children can become nonverbal, struggle with information processing, experience memory loss, etc. -- and that's in addition to the PTSD symptoms they already suffer from due to bombs and displacement.

I heard from over a dozen health care workers who are either currently in Gaza or had volunteered there.

Some docs recalled malnourished pediatric patients never recovering from procedures because their immune system's shot. Some have micronutrient disorders like scurvy and night blindness.

CLEAR attorney Shezza Abboushi Dallal, part of Mahdawi's legal team, says the ruling is a "victory" in his "just pursuit of continued advocacy for Palestinian lives" and "for all people in this country invested in their ability to dissent and speak and protest for causes they are morally drawn to."

Like many of the other pro-Palestinian students detained by ICE, Mahdawi has a habeas petition accusing the government of violating his constitutional rights.

Today's ruling allows Mahdawi, a legal resident of Vermont for the past decade, to be released while his petition moves through the courts.
