I do think this is a point of radicalization because a lot of angry, angry normal people were ready to dig in and suffer a lot in order to make fascists suffer a little, and their resolution was sold out and made into a mockery

Decades ago, in a deep recession, library hours here were slashed to four days a week. My cohort still remembers the miserable fallout, which lasted a couple of years. Free, public libraries are one of the most vital parts of democracy, which still functions pretty damn well in libraries!
