Sandbag report covered by Les Echos.

Industry could be “deprived of €35bn” by 2034. #CBAM will charge €11.3bn, but importers and Europeans alike will “reflect part of these costs in selling prices,” reducing the net impact to €5bn.

📰 Sandbag’s report as covered by Politico

CBAM's net costs to companies "far, far lower" than the €11.3bn charged for certificates, as CBAM will "likely push up prices" for goods such as steel and aluminium.

The EU may be weakening its 2040 climate targets by adding “flexibilities” to the 90% reduction target.

This risks undermining real emissions reductions and contradicts the scientific advice from @esabcc.bsky.social.

👉We explore the four proposed "flexibilities".

📢 The #SMAP is out!

While it's supposed to provide a pathway for the European industry to decarbonise competitively, the plan removes key options for transition pathways. The industry stalemate continues – prolonging emissions.

2️⃣ Clear and separate targets:
👉 for #emission reductions
👉 for net carbon dioxide sequestration in the #LULUCF sector
👉 for permanent #carbonremovals

⚠️ The target for emission reductions should be ambitious to avoid over-reliance on the natural land sink and permanent removals.

1️⃣ Level of ambition for emissions reductions

👉 by setting a 90% target, the #EuropeanCommission would aim for the bare minimum
