Goodnight from Janet Rathbone, instinctively leaning in from the family car’s passenger window as if the darkness outside might shatter it at any moment. Goodnight from Freda Dix, rearranging knickknacks on her mantlepiece in hope of apotropaic alignment. Goodnight from Hookland.

Goodnight from Robert Lister, befuddled by sudden waking and unable to fathom what’s beyond the curtained windows illuminating his bedroom as if it were day. Goodnight from Eleanor Ashfield, making her final harvest of nightshade roots for the year, Goodnight from Hookland.

Tom Lehrer made musical satire sing… & sting. His songs were outrageous & often uncomfortably true. 🎭🗡️

The satirist & mathematician died recently at 97, famously disclaiming copyright to his lyrics & compositions.

if there is one lesson it is: never hustle. it is not worth it. everyone works hard. the success stories work hard. the failures you'e never heard of work hard. the people who got laid off worked hard. it is not the determining factor in anything. set yourself free. do only what you love

At the cold edge of the marsh, beyond pylons, cigarette factory and industrial estate fencing, ice's rule is broken. Those things wintering in mud begin to wake. The cycle of offerings begins again. Some say it's for good fishing, but in their hearts they know it's about appeasement. – #MattAdams

I shall spend the day among the half-swallowed churches of The Dooms, listening to the gossip of the dead. Stories will bake in my noggin, the land will remind me I'm but an unimportant second in its long memory. I shall call it a good day. – #CLNolan
