Pushing robotic for nanofab & photonics for quantum technology is the focus of my new research group, ALPS.ml (@uni-saarland.de, Saarland, Germany).

I am looking for PhDs to work with me.

We believe in Open Science.

The robot is controlled via ROS2 and Python.
We released the code and the raw data used to generate our figures to help others automate their labs. 7/8

Accelerating this discovery is the core goal of the #GenesisMission @departmentofenergy.bsky.social unveiled today.

But to discover, AI needs access to physical reality. We need automated labs, serving as the interface for both Humans and AI to run experiments and validate models.

Why does this matter?

Consistency Enables Complexity.

To build beyond state-of-the-art devices, we combine many steps with limited yield.

Increasing the fidelity of each step is the prerequisite for discovery with these complex systems. 5/8

Does it work?
We compared the resistance spread of Josephson Junctions across chips processed by the robot vs. 3 experienced human operators.
🤖 Robot inter-chip spread: ~2.1%
🧑‍🔬 Human inter-chip spread: ~7.2%

The robot effectively eliminates operator variance. 4/8

Using a #Mecademic robot arm, we built a system utilizing OpenCV for chip detection and torque-feedback for height calibration.
It picks up 5 mm chips, swirls them in developer, and dries them. No human in the loop, means no "afternoon slump" in results. 3/8

Academic cleanrooms rely on "artisanal" manual steps. This flexibility drives discovery but hinders reproducibility.

We targeted a common task: the resist development of Josephson Junctions, the key building block of Quantum Computing @awscloud.bsky.social 2/8

The talk about a trove of data, released by a small misconfiguration in the Cloud services of the VW group, is already pretty good. Hope it will be released in english. I hope this is a topic in 2025. #38c3 https://media.ccc.de/v/38c3-wir-wissen-wo-dein-auto-steht-volksdaten-von-volkswagen

IMO the best talk from last year. DRM in public infrastructure (trains). https://media.ccc.de/v/37c3-12142-breaking_drm_in_polish_trains
